I will travel to France for my holidays this year. Not that far from where I will be heading there's a village called Aix-en-Provence, the main city of one of France most adorable country sides, ''Le Provence''. I have been in that neighborhood many times but I never noticed Metal was alive in that part of France. I admit it was a long time ago I've been there but it feels good to know that Metal is for some a way of live over there. I read Sigis is a Thrash Metal song, singing in the French language. I have always adored French vocals...Trust, Sortilege and Manigance have released outstanding releases in the past. Sigis is announced as a Power / Thrash Metal formation. The opening track is for sure no Thrash, it is Heavy Metal which sounds dated. I suppose the mediocre production has a lot to do with it but hey, this is a private pressing! What I hear are five motivated musicians who sold their souls to the Metal devil. From the second song on, 'Annihilé', I hear some Metallica sounding guitar riffs. Sigis is bringing it on with several tempi, fast, mid tempo parts and acoustic parts with emotional solos. The thrashy parts with the French language contain a pretty aggressive effect. It's obvious that Sigis is taking their announcement for a fact. Most tracks are either thrash or either Heavy Metal. The combination with more acoustic and slow, even sliding parts, are well found and give the band a pretty original touch. Oubliè for example is an awesome song, one I listened to several times. 'Les Corsairs Blues' and 'Le Crime Paié' are on the other hand not my cup of tea. Although there are some good parts, especially the solos, I don't get thrilled because of them. Sigis isn't a band that contains the best musicians, their strength is the rather good song writing. Not for a minute I was bored by ''Le Grand Retour De Nibiru''. Although Mathieu Bozonnet is an average singer I like his timbre. He has a bit of a raw voice but as I've said before the French vocals are pretty hostile. Also the solos are convincingly played with a lot of sense to reach the right Heavy Metal sound. After multiple listens I need to conclude that Sigis is a cool band to listen to. Don't expect a new sensation, Sigis isn't! What I can say is that there's enough available to search for the band on the Internet. To help you a bit; their website is http://www.sigis-metal.com My Points: 75/100 (review by Officer Nice) |
